Tshepo Themba Secondary hosts Menstrual Hygiene Day

A Menstrual Hygiene Day was held at the Tshepo Themba Secondary School in Sebokeng recently.

SEBOKENG. – The day was organised by A Million Girls Foundation’s founder, Quincy Molope, who was also one of the main speakers. Local radio station, Lekoa FM’s DJ’s Lekoa FM’s DJ Bayonic, JT and Qtest Boy also graced the event and pledged their support and became A Million Girls Foundation champions.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Molope said that the core vision of the organisation is to ensure that over the next five years, 1 million girls do not have to miss school because of their menstrual cycle, not just because of lack of sanitary products but pain management and general support as well.

“As it stands, an estimated 3.7 million girls are unable to afford sanitary products and research by  the University of Stellenbosch indicates that 30% of learners are missing school due to being on their periods.  The primary mission of A Million Girls Foundation is to be the catalyst for the development, education, and empowerment of African school girls by giving them the opportunity to have an uninterrupted schooling experience during their menstrual cycle,” she said.

The learners were thoroughly entertained and given much needed advice.
