Benni in the Pirates’ eighteen area?

After a disappointing season, Orlando Pirates are set to replace their co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davidss with their former striker, Benni McCarthy.

SEDIBENG.- Sedibeng Ster Sport can reveal that the negotiations between Orlando Pirates and McCarthy’s agent have started. McCarthy surprised many when he parted ways with Amazulu regardless of his success with the club last seasonas he took the club to the CAF tournament after the club’s finished second on the DStv Premiership for the first time in the 2000/01 season. The Pirates’ faithful have put pressure on the club’s management to secure the services of McCarthy after the club’s 2-0 defeat to SuperSport United in the last game of the season. Orlando Pirates supporters called for the two current co-coaches to be sucked after this game. This is despite the two taking the club to the final of CAF Confederation Cup final before they lost on penalties to Moroccan side RS Berkane recently.

Many believe that McCarthy is the right person to take Pirates back to their former glory. For example, when McCarthy return from abroad, he had a successful career with Orlando Pirates becoming their top marksman. However, apart from Orlando Pirates, Sedibeng Ster Sport, have been informed that teams outside South Africa are also interested in the service of McCarthy because of his experience both as a player and coach.

McCarthy spent most of his football career playing abroad after he joined Ajax Amsterdam, from Cape Town Spurs, and made  a name for himself there before he joined some high profile clubs in Europe.
