NWU Vaal’s Thema attends FIFA course in the United States

The football manager of North West University Vaal is back from Miami, USA, where he studied for his FIFA Diploma in Football Law recently.

SEDIBENG.- This qualification is a new initiative with FIFA education programs. It runs for one year and six months in different countries according to specific modules. This is the second group after the first edition was held between 2018 and 2019.

Thema will travel to the following countries between 2022 and 2023: Qatar, USA, Paraguay, Egypt and Zurich.

This is part of this ongoing education program. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Thema said that being part of this FIFA educational program was the best experience of his life. He said they were focusing on important legal issues, the effect of football internationally, contracts of players and coaches, status and registration of players, moot court cases, release of National Teams and FIFA Transfer Reforms.

“This is a great opportunity as I attended this course with Advocate Teboho Motlanthe who is the current SAFA CEO. I learned a great deal from him since we shared a class. We were the only two South Africans and I’m the only one without a law degree, even though I’m studying towards optioning it. I am humbled to be in the mist of greatness and I have learned a lot from them and when I come back I will share this kwnowledge with those who are interested especially those who are in this field. I have learned so much in a short space of time in and outside the class and learning about other countries cultures. I will cherish this for the rest of my life because not everyone is fortunate enough to come here taking into considerations the expenses,” said Thema.

Thema also told Sedibeng Ster Sport that there are 30 participants from around the world, mostly from FIFA member associations in the program..
