Vaal and Soweto Legends play for school girls

The Legends are giving back to the community.

SHARPEVILLE.- The Vaal Legends and Soweto Legends participated in charity game to raise sanitary towels for the Lekoa Shandu Secondary School girls. These games took place at James dusty soccer ground in Phelindaba, Sharpeville recently.

This successful initiative was organised by one of the former soccer players, Themba “Thoto” Zwelibanzi to help those girl children who are in need of sanitary towels. The Vaal Legends were represented by former soccer greats such as Augustine Makalakalane, Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea, Solomon Mathe and Bennet Chenene to mention but few. Soweto Legends were represented by Samuel Ngobeni, Lucky Mzizi, Dan Semake, Mlungisi Gumbi and Seelo Tau among others. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Zwelibanzi said that the games were successful taking into consideration that they achieved their objective. He believes that there is a serious need for such projects in the community to help those who are in need.

“These are our little sisters and children, and we must help them as much as we can because they will end up going to wrong people for help. We all know what is happening in our country with little girls and our sisters being victims of violence. I want to thank everyone who came to make this event a success by contributing sanitary towels especially the former soccer greats who put their busy schedules aside to be part of this initiative. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank them. I have no doubt that through football we can achieve a lot of positive things as a community.”

Zwelibanzi revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that they want to make this event an annual one and invite more legends’ teams from other regions to be part of it.
