Sedibeng TVET College places 100 students for 18 months internship programme

The students received the much needed internship programme.

SEDIBENG.- The rate of unemployment has had the countries’ youth wondering if there is any hope at all, that is: pondering around the idea and probability of finding employment to enable them to change their family dynamic and socio-economic challenges, which are ever so prevalent in disadvantaged communities.

In the minds of many, especially the unemployed, who have given hope to the reality of scarce opportunities for employment, it almost looks like all hope is lost and the future is bleak!

The Sedibeng TVET College placement office is working tirelessly to ensure that they make valuable contributions in assisting the College students to find internship programs that will enable them to complete their qualification(s). One hundred hopeful and hard-working students in Business Management, Human Resources Management, Marketing Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism, and Management Assistant, were fortunate to have been placed at various companies in and around the Vaal area. The students were welcomed by the Principal of Sedibeng TVET College Dr George Mothapo. Dr Mothapo delivered a rather inspiring and positive lecture to the students. In his address, he informed the students that they must remember to represent Sedibeng TVET College in a positive light.

“For this reason, they also need to remember that they are paving a way for their successors and also nurture the relationship(s) the College has with various Host Employers,” he added.

By the same token, Mr Bafana Luvuno, Assistant Director for Partnerships and Linkages at Sedibeng TVET College, further outlined the expectations that employers have towards the students. He reiterated that it is up to them to show host employers that they are ready to be responsible prospective employees. In addition, he also informed the students that they need to engrave the reasons why they are placed in an internship program in their heads. He further pleaded with the students that they should take initiative when opportunity prevails. This is to ensure that they are ready to make valuable contributions to the employers they are placed at.

This is not an easy task as there are many students who are still hoping to be placed, and the work is being done to ensure that other students will be placed in the near future. The College extended a word of gratitude to the Safety and Security Sector Education & Training (SASSETA) for ensuring that one hundred students are placed. A word of appreciation is extended to various College partners from the Department of Education, Lesedi Local Municipality, local guest houses, and other private companies who graced the event. The students will remain with the College for the next coming 18 months to complete the program that will enable them to qualify for their National N Diploma(s).
