“Not all of us can play football”: Mfene

Netball is not only for girls.

EVATON.- Katleho Mfene (17) was one of the best male players who graced the netball court during the Sedibeng Mel Netball games played at the VUT netball grounds in Vanderbijlpark over the weekend.

This Vaal Stars Netball Club youngster told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it doesn’t mean when you’re a boy you are forced to play football.
Mfene said despite the pressure from his friends he chose netball because he loves this sport for fitness. ”I decided to play netball because there are things that I want to achieve especially with my level of fitness. I was playing basketball before, but I decided to join Vaal Stars Netball Club. When I started started it was very difficult because people called me names, but now, I don’t care anymore what they say about me playing netball. I enjoy each and every moment of it and I challenge the youngsters to come and join netball teams. Look, not all of us are going to play football,” he told Sedibeng Ster Sport.

This Jordaan Secondary School Grade 11 pupil told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he would love to play netball at school but that sports is inactive at his school. He believes there is a need to revive sports at schools. To date, Jordaan Secondary School was a household name when it came to sport especially in football. The school produced some of the great players and some of them went on to play professionally.
Meanwhile, despite his team losing 45-8 to Tsoelopelo Netball Club and 39-17 to VUT Male Netball Club, Mfene had a great game on the day.
