Three electric sabotage suspects remanded in custody

The suspects are believe to have been in cohorts with the cable thieves.

VANDERBIJLPARK. The case of sabotage against the three suspects, Lindiwe Ramathesele ( 51), Innocent Thulani Bakela (35) and Mbali Makhanya (36) was postponed until 10 May for a formal bail application by the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s court.

The trio appeared on Wednesday, 4 May, this after they briefly appeared for the third time on 28 April. Their arrest came after the power failures throughout the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) on Good Friday and this was suspected as sabotage. A security guard who was on duty at that time of the incident told police that she allowed the people pretending to be employed by the ELM onto the ELM’s property where a trasformer was situated, she later heared a sound of explosion as it blew up.

The court postponed the case so that the Investigation Officer (IO) could verify their physical addresses.
