Plenty of action at Conti soccer grounds

The Evaton community spent the long weekend watching former soccer greats competing against each other.

EVATON.- It was action galore when the masters soccer teams battled it out in a tournament held at Conti dusty soccer ground in Evaton over long weekend holidays.

The tournament started on Freedom Day and continued until over the weekend. The Evaton community spent the long weekend watching former soccer greats competing against each other. It was like a family gathering with young and old came in numbers to spend their long weekend watching these masters soccer tournaments. It was a great football displayed by those ex-soccer players much to the delight of those who watched the games. There were familiar faces who came to watch and support this initiative such as former soccer great Kenneth “Conti” Kubheka who always supports the masters’ soccer event. Former Vaal Professional and Super Sport United hard man, Peter “Fire” Khoabane who is involved with the Sedibeng Regional Masters Football Association told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the aim of the event was to amalgamate the soccer masters and the development of football in this region. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they want to see these two organisations working together to improve the standard of football.

“Look, we are working on something interesting to amalgamate the masters football and Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA). It is very important for us to work together for the sake of the development of football in our area. I have no doubt that together we will raise the standard of football with the masters soccer teams to adopt the development teams from the area.
“We want each master soccer teams that is part of the Sedibeng Regional Masters Football Association to join us.”
