Urgent intervention needed in Sicelo amid floods

Midvaal Local Municipality MMC for Development and Planning Mokete Motsamai recently lead an oversite in Sicelo Extension amid floods.

MIDVAAL. – The oversite was conducted together with the Development, Planning and Human Settlement team along with Section 80 councilors.

Motsamai said the current situation at the area called for urgent intervention by the municipality. “The tragic toll caused by the force of nature in Sicelo Extension calls for an effective response by government,” he said.

Motsamai says during the oversite, the team assessed the damage caused by persistent, heavy rains and the extent of the flood damage.

Motsamai said the dire conditions that residents live in are a reminder of a lot of work that still needs to be done.

“An immediate task is to move those impacted by the floods. “Following our walkabout, I convened an onsite joint meeting with management and councillors to engage on how best we can firmly tighten our grip and heighten our efforts to improve the lives of our people.

“The outcome of this meeting was that the more than 50 shacks affected be moved urgently.”

Motsamai told Ster that the long term plan is the speedy implementation of the housing development at Lankuil 77 which will accommodate more than 7000 (thousand) RDP houses.

The Professional Resource Team (PRT) has been appointed and studies are being done on the property at the moment.
