Easter is here!

TOUCHLINE, appeals to local companies and businesses to invest wisely in the development of our football in this region.

SEDIBENG.- It is that time of the year one is looking forward to kasi football in a form of township soccer tournaments. The whole community will gather at the community dusty soccer grounds to watch those who are blessed with God given soccer talents during this long Easter weekend.

In the past we used to call it “diski nine”, however, today they refer to it as ‘kasi flavour’ or football. But TOUCHLINE’s only disappointment is the number of tournaments that will be taking place during this Easter holidays. Yours truly advocates for the development of football and can count ten tournaments that will take place in our community come this weekend. Unlike in the past where local soccer fans would go to watch Pooe Easter and UK Tournament, things have changed. There will be tournaments all over community soccer grounds and some of these tournaments don’t even add value to our football. Some people have found a way to make quick money through these tournaments in our community at the expenses of our talent. Can we go back to those days when we used to travel between the Pooe Easter Tournament and the UK Tournament?

TOUCHLINE understands that there are some business people who also want to contribute to their community in the form of tournaments. There is nothing wrong about that as long as this is for the good cause of the development of our football in Sedibeng. TOUCHLINE welcomes them in the form of contribution as long as it is for the betterment of our football or development of our football. There are some tournaments that are organised for the love of money – to milk our poor clubs. During our days the tournaments were organised through our football structures because there was respect for football structures in our communities. There would be no tournaments organised without them being sanctioned by football authorities. For example, tournaments like the Pooe Tournament were ran through football structures especially when it comes to the juniors.

This tournament brings the Sedibeng community together especially during the festive seasons with teams from outside also coming to participate in this tournament. It is one of the biggest tournaments not only in Gauteng but in South Africa.  This is where I spent my festive holidays, this is where families spent their holidays. This is where the community spent their holidays to watch kasi football. For years some people have tried to compete with this Pooe Festive Tournament, without success. You know why, because it is one of the biggest in the Sedibeng community unlike these mushrooming tournaments. I know I sound like the Pooe Tournament Marketing Manager, but I’m not – truth be told this is one of the biggest tournaments in our lifetime in this region. TOUCHLINE, appeals to local companies and businesses to invest wisely in the development of our football in this region.

Please don’t organise tournament for tax purposes because this is where our are problems are.
