Meeting held to calm tensions in Meyerton Farms

Police Spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi says: “Following a consultation, members of the community took upon themselves to erect a wall fence in all the exits that criminals use after committing crime and this assisted in minimising the level of crime and movement on R59.”

MEYERTON. – An urgent meeting was recently called in Meyerton Farms Sector 1 after tensions caused a division among members of the community. The meeting was led by Meyerton SAPS Station Commander Colonel Victor Lepitla together with Ward Councillor Tumelo Mokgomong and Midvaal Local Municipality’s MMC for Engineering Services Gerrit Viljoen.

The community of Meyerton Farms started experiencing a high level of crime and house breakings as a result of a high number of people passing through the area to cross over the R59 on foot.

Police Spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi says: “Following a consultation, members of the community took upon themselves to erect a wall fence in all the exits that criminals use after committing crime and this assisted in minimising the level of crime and movement on R59.”

Moloi reports that following the project, the majority of community members were happy while others complained that they had lost customers since the fence was erected. “This caused a division among the community members and the situation escalated to the point where some community members were threatened.

Fortunately, Lepitla, Viljoen and Mokgomong were able to amicably resolve the matter between the divided parties. An agreement was reached that gates will be installed at all exits and will be monitored at all times.”

As a former CPF Chairperson, MMC Viljoen urged the community to work together with the police to combat crime in the area.

Lepitla in his address stated that division in the community would make it difficult to combat crime.

“I am glad that the matter is resolved and the community is now united. Even when the enemy comes the community will fight it together and defeat it.”

Any illegal activities can be reported to SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or sms to Crime line 32211 or MySAPSApp. All information will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
