Human Rights Day activities galore

This Human Rights program also involved a legends soccer tournament.

SHARPEVILLE.- There were lots of activities that took place in Sedibeng as part of commemorating Human Rights Day on Monday.

There was a hive of sporting activities that took place around Sharpeville including grassroots programs and a development soccer tournament that took place at George Thabe Stadium. This programs were facilitated by former Bafana Bafana dreadlocked midfielder, Augustine “Mthakathi”Makalakalane. This Human Rights program also involved a legends soccer tournament.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Makalakalane said his responsibility was to ensure that football programs became part of this year’s Human Rights Day commemoration.

He hailed this program as a success while seeing youngsters also having fun while playing football. Makalakalane hosted a grassroots program for boys and girls in partnership with some of Sharpeville schools. There was also u/15 soccer tournament that formed part of this commemoration with local legends also forming part of this program.

“My responsibility was to represent football in this committee and I’m happy I managed to organise a soccer tournament for the youngsters. I grew up playing in these fields and I know exactly how they feel and some of them will become professional soccer players one day. I really want to take this opportunity to thank all the teams for their participation in this tournament.”
