Bophelong community patrollers want safety in their community

BOPHELONG.- Community members of Ward 7 in Bophelong report that they have run out of patience as they are constantly terrorised by the same criminals from their community.

This has sparked them taking matters into their own hands and patrolling the community in an effort to create a safer environment.

Mfanelo Motloung, one of the leaders, mentioned that within seven days they had managed to confiscate dangerous weapons from the thugs in their community.

“These are the weapons used to terrorise our community,” he said.

Among the weapons and drugs confiscated are mandrax, nyaope, axes, knives, pangas, scissors, ATM cards, electric cables and toy guns.

“We have decided to cover the entire area, as we are worried people are losing lives. Nowadays they don’t even want to be dark. Attacks and robberies occur when people are heading to work or in the afternoon.”

Motloung explained that sometimes the Bophelong Police Station is closed overnight.

“Our duty is not to assault, but to stop, search, disarm, and release them, if we find illegal items or weapons.” said Motloung.
