Clubs divided over candidates for ELFA Chairmanship

“Why fix something that is not broken, and I believe the current chairman must return to his position."

SEBOKENG.- With the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) elections around the corner there are interesting developments with nominations lists of candidates going around on social media platforms.

Some of the notable names on the list includes of former Safa Sedibeng Secretary Star Hlongwane and RESA Director Xolani Mathumba. The clubs are divided over who should be the next ELFA Chairman, to replace the current Chairman, Jabu Mgcina. However, many still believes that Mgcina is still relevant to lead the association for the next four years. The clubs believe that under the leadership of Mgcina the association has managed to achieve a lot including securing sponsorship for the junior soccer teams among other achievements. The clubs took this debate to social media with some of the names being mentioned.

Sedibeng Ster veteran sports journalist, Zacharia Nale’s name was also mentioned as part of the additional members, but this journalist has since indicated that he is not interested for any position in the association. “We want to bring some changes because some of the current Emfuleni Local Football Association executive committee members are inactive, and we want to replace them with our candidates. Look, we heard people saying under the current chairman of the association has achieved a lot, but we don’t think so. There are a lot of wrong things that take place in our association and clubs are not respected by certain individuals because there is no accountability,” said a club official who didn’t want his name to be mention. However, another club chairman who also didn’t want his name to be mentioned said replacing Mgcina would be suicidal because under his leadership the association is stable.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the current ELFA executive committee must be returned and only those who are no longer part of the association be replaced with the new members.

“Why fix something that is not broken, and I believe the current chairman must return to his position.  It would be unfair to vote him out taking into consideration what he has achieved for the past three years. Look, results are there for everyone to see that he has transformed this association since he took over as the chairman,” he concluded.
