Mkhondo donates soccer equipment to Vaal Legends

“I was encouraged by ELM Mayor’s speech when he said some of us grew up watching some of these ex-professional players and it was a great feeling to be under the same roof with them."

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The Regional Treasure of MKMVA in Sedibeng who is also a Member of ANC Sedibeng Regional Task Team (RTT), Johnny “Mkhondo” Radebe donated two soccer kits and balls to the Vaal Legends recently.

The handover took place at Emfuleni Golf Estate and was graced by both Executive Mayors of the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) and Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Lerato Maloka and Sipho Radebe. The handover was also attended by former professional soccer players who are part of Vaal Legends.

Some of the ex-professionals’ players who attended the event included Avril Phali, Solomon Mathe, Josias “Bingo” Nnete, Isaac Mphasane, Phiri Tsotetsi, Steve Lekoelea, Xolani Makhoba, Vincent Khumalo, Bennet Chenene and Augustine Makalakalane to mention but a few. The Vaal Legends will use the soccer kits when they play against their ex-professional’s counterparts. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Radebe said he was approached by Vaal Legends and he responded immediately to their challenges in his personal capacity. Radebe told Sedibeng Ster Sports that he was honoured by both mayors’ attendance despite their busy schedule. “I invited both of the Mayors to bless this occasion as the first citizens of our regions and from the bottom of my heart I want to thank them for their attendance in a short space of time. They made this event a success by just attending. I was encouraged by ELM Mayor’s speech when he said some of us grew up watching some of these ex-professional players and it was a great feeling to be under the same roof with them. However, he advised them to be properly coordinated and not to come as individuals for any kind of help,” said Radebe who also  revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that he will donate another soccer kit to local development teams soon. He said apart from being a politician he also supports the development of sports.

Former Orlando Pirates and Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper Avril Phali said on behalf of Vaal Legends, he wants to thank Radebe for his generosity.

“I really want to thank Mr Radebe because we approached a few people without success, but he immediately responded positively to our request. We, as Vaal Legends, want to take this opportunity to thank all the leadership who graced this occasion. It was a great experience to be on the same roof with this great leadership,” he concluded.
