Knitting Circle produces warm clothing for winter

The Pioneer House Knitting Circle under the leadership of Tannie Babsie (89) together knitted an impressive 35 ponchos, 166 jerseys, 15 baby blankets, 25 baby jerseys, 600 beanies and scarves in 2021.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – These items were handed over to various children’s homes, orphanages, places of safety, foster care homes and soup kitchens to keep people warm during the cold winter months.

The Knitting Circle, which was established by the Rotary Club of Riverside, consists of 17 ladies and 2 gentlemen from Pioneer House, a low cost accomodation facility in Vanderbijlpark.

This year the Knitting Circle decided to also knit toys that will be handed out to children in the community.

One of the members, Johan Pretorius, knits the most gorgeous beanies. This year the Knitting Circle decided to also knit toys that will be handed out to children in the community.

89-year-old Tannie Babsie is amazing and sees that everyone gets their wool, instructions and inspects the completed item.

The knitters get chocolates on their birthday, goodie bags and also get treated to a social event annually.

During the past year the Rotary Club of Vanderbijlpark collect the items from Pioneer House and hand it out during the wintertime.

Donations of wool are welcomed.
