DA says it is watching ELM’s ‘illegal recruitment’

“The ANC wanted to secure jobs for their pals considering that this positions are party affiliated.”

SEDIBENG. – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has said that they find it very strange that the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) allegedly continued in secret to extend ANC members’ political contracts before the recent local government elections.

Kingsol Chabalala, DA Emfuleni North Constituency head, said that they have received complaints from several stakeholders that the ELM has advertised several political support offices position two weeks before the local government elections. Apparently immediately after the DA made ‘a noise’ about it, the contracts were withdrawn. Chabalala said according to the standard legal procedure for employment recruitment, it requires the ELM Human Resource Department to advertise the post after the election of the new administration which entails the Mayor, Speaker and Chiefwhip.

“The ANC wanted to secure jobs for their pals considering that this positions are party affiliated,” said Chabalala.

However, Chabalala said after making an enquiry to the Gauteng MEC for Cogta, Lebogang Maile, he (Maile), succumbed to DA’s pressure to investigate the illegal extension of employment contracts. He said that Maile has said that they will investigate the matter to ensure that the applicable legislation is followed to the latter. “The DA will continue monitoring the recruitment processes in Emfuleni. There are new political leaders to ensure that standard recruitment procedures are followed.
Emfuleni is where it is today because of cadre deployment,” said Chabalala.
