Midvaal Municipality trains former WOF firefighters

‘‘There is a prospect of employment after the training period.’’

SEDIBENG.- A number of former Working on Fire (WOF) firefighters are now formally interned at the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM).

Corneˊ Heymans, a Divisional Officer in Operations at Midvaal Fire Station has confirmed that five firefighters from the WOF programme are now formally interned at Vaal Marina Fire Station. The team of WOF programme firefighters are also based at the fire station. The trainees are Tankiso Motloung, Alfred Mpinga, Pius Morajane, Jeanette Tshabalala and Paulina Tsotetsi.

‘‘We are training the interns at the moment. Once the training is completed, we will decide the way forward in terms of employment contracts because we need local firefighters from Vaal Marina,’’ Heymans said. He further said that the newly opened fire station which cost the MLM R16 million needs to be staffed and operational. ‘Firefighters from Working on Fire are brilliant; therefore, we couldn’t afford to lose the best talent and experience. It is part of job creation for the locals in Vaal Marina. They have experience in responding to calls on road accidents and fires. We are proud and confident that we are taking the right people with discipline and competence,’’ said Heymans jubilantly.

General Manager for WOF in Gauteng, Stephen Boyes said that the trainees should use the opportunity to advance their lifetime goals.

‘‘There is a prospect of employment after the training period,’’ he said.
