ArcelorMittal to dispose of building in Peacehaven

ArcelorMittal South Africa reports that it is currently working with an independent service provider to dispose of its property on the corner of General Hertzog Road and Mario Milani Drive in Vereeniging.

VEREENIGNG. – The company says it is hoping that these plans will be carried out before the end of the year.

Group Manager for Stakeholder Engagement and Communications, Tami Didiza says: “The intention is to auction the current structure at the disused plant for salvage by the successful bidder. The company is aware of the security issues and is doing all that it can to protect its properties, including engaging the local council and local police services for their support.”

The statement follows numerous complaints from business people in the area as well as residential property owners who said that the structure was attracting unsavoury characters into the vicinity.

“Currently, there are no security guards on the premises which means criminals are able to come into the building and do as they please.

“Everyday we are faced with people going into the building, breaking down the structures and carrying it away.”

Another concern that was raised was that of safety. Concerned parties said that they were afraid that the building would one day collapse and harm people.

Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda confirmed that they had received numerous complaints regarding what is going on at the building.
