Victim empowerment volunteer charged for corruption

The case was postponed until 07 December for further investigation.

ZAMDELA. – A Victim Empowerment Centre volunteer has been arrested charged with corruption by the Sasolburg Magistrate’s court.
The alleged suspect is serving community members at the Zamdela police station.
She had briefly appeared at Court on 11 November.
Police spokesperson Captain Malebo Khosana said the arrest of the suspect, Mosela Radebe (47), was made by the Zamdela Trio Task Team members after after an entrapment was set on her.

“She was followed after a community member asked for assistance with her drug addicted son.  Recently a 67 year- old mother went to the Victim Support Centre office to request an assistance on 04 November where she allegedly met with  Radebe at Zamdela SAPS premises.”

Radebe is said to have promised to assist her after requesting n amount of R1200-00 from the mother of the alleged drug addict with the aim of placing the addicted son into a rehabilitation centre.

“A preliminary investigation was launched by Task Team members who informed Anti-Corruption Unit. On 9 November around 13:00 the complainants called Radebe to informed her that she got the cash. The victim said she got  the cash and asked how and where they can meet.
The alleged suspect instructed her to bring it at the station.”

It is alleged that she requested R2450-00 in total. A trap was set as no funds should be paid for assistance by victims or patients of drugs.

” A police team went to Radebe’s office. A total of of R 1200 was used as entrapment was stuffed in a plastic bag,” said Captain Khosana.
The alleged suspect was immediately arrested, she is out on R1000 bail. The case was postponed until 07 December for further investigation.
