Man arrested after allegedly hacking woman to death

The police in De Deur are investigating the gruesome murder of 32-year-old Zanele Motsei who was hacked to death by her boyfriend at Ramaphosa Squatter Camp recently.

DE DEUR. –  Joyce Motsei (19) says she lived with her deceased aunt and her lover along with his kids. Joyce says the two were together for a little more than three years. “I was with my aunt the night before the incident happened.  

We had slept over at a friend’s house because my aunt had a protection order against her boyfriend, so when he got home from work my aund and I left.” Joyce says her aunt woke up around 05: 00 on Saturday morning to go and check if the boyfriend had demolished the shack like he said he would.

“She said I would follow her. When I finally arrived at their shack, I saw members of the community and the police. My aunt’s body was covered with a blanket in a pool of blood. She was badly hurt.”

I’m am disturbed by the incident. My aunt didn’t speak out about the abuse that was taking place in her relationship. “She had recently started opening up now that she wanted to end the relationship. I hope that the suspect will spend a long time in jail.”

Police spokesperson Constable Maria Letsele says the police in de Deur were called to the scene by community members.

“On arrival, police found community members surrounding the shack where the murder had occurred.  Members managed to rescue the suspect from the community and arrested him for the murder of his girlfriend.”

Letsele says a murder case docket has been opened for investigation and the suspect is due to appear at the Vereeniging Magistrate Court soon.
