‘Planned maintenance will NOT result in total cut off’ – Rand Water

Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has advised that water supply will be shutdown for a duration of 54 hours in the following areas:

Rand Water has refuted various reports purporting total water cuts in the Gauteng Province because of the planned tie-in.

According to Rand Water a planned tie-in is by no means a total cut-off of water supply.

The 54-hour water shutdown will be starting on Monday, 15 November.

According to Rand Water, their bulk water supplier is working on its raw water pipe that supplies the Vereeniging water purification plant.

“… as a result, the purification plant will not be operational from 15 November 2021 at 05:00 for a period of 54 hours,” Rand Water’s spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela said in a statement.

This will affect the water supply from the Rand Water Eikenhof pump station to the south of Johannesburg, the CBD and the northern and western areas as the supply will be reduced by 25%.

“Water supply from the Rand Water Swartkoppies system to the central CBD will be reduced by 50%.”

“Water supply reduction will result in poor to no water supply during peak water demand periods in most high laying and high demand areas. “Stationary and roaring water tankers will be made available where feasible to reduce the impact to consumers,” she said.

Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has advised that water supply will be shutdown for a duration of 54 hours in the following areas:

Vereeniging, Sharpeville, Vanderbijlpark, Bophelong, Bonanne, Boipatong and Tshepiso.
