SEDIBENG. – The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has vehemently denied the rumours that are doing circles claiming its Municipal Manager (MM), Lucky Leseane has been fired.
The Emfuleni Local Council in its sitting held on 29 July 2021 resolved to put Leseane on precautionary suspension pending consideration of an investigation report into allegations of serious misconduct and poor performance. The ELM said that Leseane is currently under precautionary suspension as of 29 July 2021.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, ELM Mayoral Spokesperson, Lebo Mofokeng said:
“The Emfuleni office of the Executive Mayor wishes to place on record that the Municipal Manager, Mr Lucky Leseane is not fired as suggested in the social media space. The suspension of senior officials is never taken lightly by the municipality due to its impact on management stability and service delivery. It is for these reasons that the Executive Mayor wants this matter finalized as soon as possible.”
She added that the municipality will soon receive a report from the independent law firm that was appointed by Council to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and poor performance (against Leseane) amongst others.
“The institution cannot divulge any further details on human resources and legal matters beyond the public information which has been confirmed by the municipality on the subject. In line with the applicable legislation regulating the local government, the municipal council has appointed Mr. Andile Dyakala, who is the current Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to be the Acting Municipal Manager for a brief period. The Executive Mayor has the legal prerogative and delegated authority to appoint an Acting Municipal Manager whenever the necessity arises as it has been the case historically and now.”
