Delays in the completion of the Beverly Hills Police Station impacts negatively on community safety

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says unnecessary delays in the completion of the Beverly Hills Police Station in Evaton, Emfuleni Local Municipality negatively impacts the safety of the residents as they rely on neighbouring police stations with stretched resources for services.

EMFULENI. – According to the DA the suffering of the residents is far from over as they must commute to the neighbouring police station to access police services which are costly and time-consuming.

The DA’s Kingsol Chabalala.

This information was revealed to the party by the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko in a written reply to my questions tabled in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL).

“According to MEC Mazibuko, the construction of the new police station began on 11 November 2019 and was supposed to be completed in July 2021. However, to date, the project is still not complete,” the DA’s Emfuleni North Constituency Head, Kingsol Chabalala, said in a statement.

“MEC Mazibuko states that the delays in the construction of the police station are attributed to the business forums forming part of the project. Delays were experienced through damage of the physical property (fence) and labour disputes. Delays were also experienced with the local municipality and Eskom with the administrative processes for the provision of basic services. The supply and delivery of materials were also delayed due to COVID-19 regulations,” Chabalala says.

According to the DA these delays are a clear indication that the ANC-led administration in Emfuleni can no longer be trusted in delivering much-needed resources such as the police station.

“The Beverly Hills and Evaton areas are in desperate need of this police station to prevent and ensure the safety and security of the residents.

“Service delivery has collapsed in Emfuleni due to maladministration, corruption, mismanagement of funds, and cadre deployment and the only people who suffer are the residents,” says Chabalala.
