Gauteng MEC visits incomplete DLTC project in Sebokeng

The Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo has promised that government will complete the unfinished Drivers Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) in Sebokeng.

SEBOKENG. -The MEC was part of a delegation of ANC government officials who took oversite to specific service delivery areas in the region last week.

The project which has seen money to the tune of R75 million being poured into it, has left residents and unpaid sub-contractors dissapointed.

Mamabolo said he would come back before the closing of constructions in December to give feedback on how his department together with the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) will ensure that the DLTC is completed and that work resumes urgently.

After hearing the concerns of sub-contractors who are owed money by the main contractor, Mamabolo asked for a data base to be compiled in order to address the issues.

Mamabolo said as government, they are working on strengthening capacity for oversite on contractors. In April, Democratic Alliance (DA) Emfuleni North Constituency Head, Kingsol Chabalala released a statement, siting that the construction of the DLTC in Sebokeng commenced in September 2015 and was expected to be completed in 2016.

“This clearly indicates a lack of project management by the department as this project was not properly supervised and is one of many projects that have been abandoned by the contractors which is a total waste of taxpayer’s money.” p
