ELM Mayor shattered by Matongo’s death

"We have lost one of our flag-bearers and the champion of the ANC transformation agenda to create a non-racial, non-sexist, Democratic and single South Africa." 

SEDIBENG.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality, Executive Mayor Moerane has sent his condolences to the Matongo family, friends and his political party, the ANC following the death of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Jolidee Matongo on Saturday. Matogo died in a car accident, he had been campaigning with President Ramaphosa before the accident where his vehicle is said to have collided with a van while trying to avoid a pedestrian who had run on to the road. Matogo was a product of the Generation of Congress of South African Students (COSAS) and the early generation of SOWETO Student Congress (SOSCO). “We have lost one of our flag-bearers and the champion of the ANC transformation agenda to create a non-racial, non-sexist, Democratic and single South Africa. The passing away of the Executive Mayor of the City of Joburg, Clr. Jolidee Matongo, has robbed the people of Soweto and the country as a whole, an icon, leader and trailblazer who lived and embodied the values and principles of Ubuntu and Humanity. We are shuttered and words fail us.” said Executive Mayor Moerane
