SEDIBENG.- Sikies Transport and Projects, a women-led construction company, along with its joint partner handed over a fully refurbished home to a disadvantaged family of a 29-year-old young man with disability, known as Bobo Mokoena in Tima Lebone, Lakeside on Tuesday.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sikies Transport and Projects Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Clara Sodlulashe-Mwenze said that since her company and Daatax JV began working in Savanna City as one of the contractors appointed by Basic Read, the young man visited the site on daily basis to a point where he started to bring along a lunchbox with him.

“The disabled young man influenced the ambience of the site and every employee understood him.  One day the I decided to go and see where this particular individual who is at the site everyday is residing. Upon arrival at Bobo’s home (with 6 children with a single unemployed parent), I was suddenly saddened by the conditions of their house to an extent that I started sobbing.  The house was dilapidated, the door was closed with a screwdriver and many other items were in expired conditions.”

Sikies and Daatax JV team decided to work on refurbishing the house.

“The team worked on weekends without expecting any overtime for salaries. Everyone was dedicated in improving the living conditions of Bobo and his family. The handover event was attended by  Gauteng MEC for Finance Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, MMC for Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) Madisebo Khomoeasara, the Client Basil Read Developmental Manager,  Mr Dumisani Zitha, Ward Councilor, Mr Thabang Mofokeng  and SAWIC Eastern Cape and Gauteng members.”

The family received their new home, fully furnished  with tears of joy along with the community witnessing this touching initiative.
