Young leader starts operation ‘Clean-up’

The clean-up operation was carried out by community members together with the Midvaal Local Municipality and the Democratic Alliance (DA) constituency in Sicelo.

MIDVAAL.- Sibusiso Dyonase celebrated his birthday by doing something meaningful that would impact his community in a positive way.

Dyonase recently organized a cleaning campaign at the major illegal dumping site in the Sicelo Community. The clean-up operation was carried out by community members together with the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) constituency in Sicelo.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster about the project, Dyonase says: “We are facing the problem of illegal dumping in our area, and this was a call to action to our community. The municipality can only do so much but we as young people can also take charge by cleaning our environment and ensuring that we all exist in a clean environment.”

Speaking on behalf of MLM was the Speaker of Council Freddie Peters who echoed Dyonase’s sentiments. “It is very important for the community to meet the municipality halfway in ensuring that they do their part in keeping the environment clean.

“Most of our people living here cannot afford to pay their municipal bills. These are members of the community that can contribute by giving their efforts and time to contribute in projects like this one which makes the job of the municipality easy.”

Dyonase said that he hoped that the campaign would expand to other areas in order to eradicate dumping sites in Midvaal for good as they bring negative elements in the community.
