Rand Water’s safety plan guarantees safe drinking water

Rand Water  states that it has an extensive water quality monitoring system that includes an ISO 17025 accredited central laboratory, multiple operational site laboratories and online instruments.

Rand Water says it has established and implemented a credible Water Safety Plan to supply consumers with safe drinking water continually.

Spokesperson Justice Mohale says the Water Safety Plan is aligned with the International Water Association’s Water Safety Planning guidelines.

“In its 118-year history, Rand Water has never compromised supply of the best quality water to its customers.

“This has, in recent times, been further demonstrated by the water utility’s achievement of nine Blue Drop awards in the last audit conducted by the Department of Water and Sanitation in 2013.”

Mohale adds that in 2012 the organisation was also  honoured by the International Water Association for implementing the Water Safety Planvand continued compliance to the National Drinking Water Standard (SANS241) and other relevant World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

“The Water Safety Plan is implemented at various stages of water supply, including monitoring of water catchment areas, as well as throughout the treatment and supply of water to municipalities.”

Rand Water  states that it has an extensive water quality monitoring system that includes an ISO 17025 accredited central laboratory, multiple operational site laboratories and online instruments.

The organisation also reports its water quality performance regularly to municipalities and publishes reports in the media.

“Operational activities are ISO 9001 certified. Competent staff, in alignment with Department of Human Settlement, Water & Sanitation’s legislated requirements, operate the treatment and bulk supply infrastructure.”
