Fire destroys grazing land, leaving owners stranded

Part of the Vaal River Primary School sports field has been affected too.

THE BARRAGE. – Farmers were left furious after one of the plot owners allegedly started fire that engulfed about nine plots in Nanescol near Barrage yesterday.

The Chairperson of the Rusticana Neighborhood Watch, Burt Cordier, said that there was no need for the alleged owner to  start a fire looking at the bad weather and strong winds. Cordier said that after driving to the place where the fire started, he was met with a few burned plastic mobile toilets.

At the time the Emfuleni Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene it was too little too late. The most damage was experienced at the Mokago Auction. Speaking to Cordier,  he said that one of the farm owners said that they have lost more than R600 000 items, excluding a shack structures and other items.

Part of the Vaal River Primary School sports field has been affected too.

Cordier who also lost animal grazing fields said that he intends to take legal steps against the known farmer who allegedly started the fire. It is not known why the farmer started the fire.
