Uniting Reformed Church members rolls their sleeves

“This is part of our social responsibility to give back in our community because this is  the duty of churches, to help those in need."

SHARPEVILLE.- Uniting Reformed Church (URC) members from Sharpeville rolled up their sleeves for the needy community when they donated clothes, food parcels and a two room Zozo to a needy family in Tshepiso Phase 1 recently. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Reverend Oupa Thebe said the initiative is part of the church project to give back to the community. Thebe said that the church gets donations from their USA partner church and contribute them to the community especially those less fortunate. Thebe said that while they were busy distributing clothes and food parcels in the community, he found two children who needed a proper place to stay and his church bought them a two room Zozo. He said these children’s, aged between 15 and 19, mother passed away five years ago, and their father left them after their mother died. The church also bought them furniture. “This is part of our social responsibility to give back in our community because this is  the duty of churches, to help those in need. As Uniting Reform Church, it is our responsibility to help those who are in need in the community. We received these donations from USA and distributed them to the community and as church we also adopted five families that we buy groceries.  This is our ongoing project to contribute positively in our community as the church of God,” said Thebe.
