Christian school in top competition

The school is among the seven selected to represent Gauteng province nationally with the final to be held on 5 August.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Four grade 12 learners of the El – Shaddai Christian School in Vanderbijlpark have entered a monetary policy competition.
The competitionon is organized by the Department of Education in partnership with South African Reserve Bank.

The school is among the seven selected to represent Gauteng province nationally with the final to be held on 5 August.

The learners were given an opportunity to be the actual Governor of the Reserve Bank and they were tasked to write a monetary policy statement and come up with an interesting decision to decide whether the repo-rates should be increase or decreased.

Jameson Zivanai Head of Department for Commerce said, the presentation will be conducted virtually due to the Covid-19 regulation on 4 August. The learners were also tasked to write a monetary statement. They do research on economic data, issues of inflation and unemployment regarding the micro- economic variables of the country.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Gabriella Edoh (18), a leading Captain, said she was elected by her team to act as a Governor.
Her three members will be the deputy to form a committee of the governor. She said that the last time they entered the competition was in 2019 and att that period they obtained position six.

This time, she said they expect nothing but to come out first or second position.
