DCS confirms Zuma’s arrest

In a statement the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirmed that Zuma will start his jail term at Estcourt Correctional Centre, KwaZulu-Natal.

Following the Constitutional Court ruling that found former President Jacob Zuma guilty of contempt, he has handed himself in to begin his 15-month jail term.

In a statement the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirmed that Zuma will start his jail term at Estcourt Correctional Centre, KwaZulu-Natal.

The ConCourt found Zuma guilty of contempt for failing to appear before a commission investigating corruption accusations.

According to DCS the former president will be taken through all the admission processes as per DCS regulations.

“Other relevant prescripts pertaining to admitting orienting newly incarcerated persons will also be followed and executed.”

“Details about the appropriate classification, prerogative and incarceration conditions can only be determined at the completion of the assessment process to be undertaken by relevant authorities with the employ of DCS.”

Zuma was taken into custody on Wednesday night – 45 minutes before the arrest deadline as set by the ConCourt.

The ConCourt ordered Zuma’s imprisonment in June after finding him guilty of contempt for failing to appear before a commission investigating corruption accusations.
