AfriForum undertakes clean-up action

"Emfuleni Local Municipality’s inability to keep Vanderbijlpark clean, neat and safe, led to the decision by the branch and the community to begin cleaning up the town themselves."

VANDERBIJLPARK. – On 26 June 2021, the AfriForum branch in Vanderbijlpark together with members of the community kicked off a sustainable project with a clean-up action in the CW2 area.

Emfuleni Local Municipality’s inability to keep Vanderbijlpark clean, neat and safe, led to the decision by the branch and the community to begin cleaning up the town themselves.

The AfriForum branch in Vanderbijlpark will clean the town weekly, fill potholes on an ongoing basis and paint substations to keep the town neat.

Vanderbijlpark was without water twice in June due to burst pipes and the C areas are without electricity due to a lack of maintenance at substations.

“It is sad that a community has to pay for services that the municipality is not able to deliver. Emfuleni Local Municipality must be held accountable for their poor service delivery, but until then the community will keep the town clean and neat themselves,” says Stephanus Blignault, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the West Rand.
