Pool table for Krugerlaan learners

Pool 4 Change representative in the Gauteng Province, André du Toit told the learners that theirs was the fourth pool table to be donated in the whole of Gauteng.

VEREENIGING. – The learners of Krugerlaan School could not contain their excitement during the handover of a brand new pool table recently.

The handover was carried out by Pool 4 Change in conjunction with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and the South African Confederation of Cue Sport.

Pool 4 Change representative in the Gauteng Province, André du Toit told the learners that theirs was the fourth pool table to be donated in the whole of Gauteng.

Du Toit encouraged learners to think about the possibility of starting a league with the two other schools in Vereeniging. “I think we can start with having friendly matches against the other schools.

This will help players grow skills and eventually it can lead up to a competition.” Du Toit thanked the learners for being part of the initiative.

Sedibeng Cue Sport and Sedibeng Sport Council representative Stephan Steenkamp thanked the Pool 4 Change team for bringing a positive change to schools in the region.

Steenkamp says: “Cue Sport consists of about 7 sporting codes. For now the school will concentrate on pool only.” He added that they would assist with other codes as well.

Steenkamp told the learners about all the provincial colours they could achieve in practising and competing in this sport. He also revealed all the opportunities one can be presented with in Cue Sport.

He applauded Pool 4 Change for keeping children away from negative things through their initiative.

Krugerlaan School Principal,  Josef Potgieter, said that the misconception about pool is that it is only played in bars and other wrong places. “We are very grateful for this donation as it gives our learners something that will teach them discipline.”

The handover ended with the learners being allowed to play a match in order to officially launch the new table.
