Anti-bullying initiative held in Orange Farm

In a plight to eradicate bullying from society, a joint Ministerial anti-bullying awareness initiative was held at Tshepana Primary School in Orange Farm last week.

ORANGE-FARM. – Themed ‘School Safety – Violence, and Bullying Prevention Initiatives, the campaign aims to mobilise learners, parents, teachers and key stakeholders in promoting a safe learning environment for quality education and galvanise constructive community involvement in schools to curb incidents of bullying and violence.

Basic Education Deputy Minister, Dr Reginah Mhaule together with the Deputy Ministers of Communication and Digital Technologies, Pinky Kekana; Home Affairs, Njabulo Nzuza  Justice and Constitutional Development John Jeffrey, Social Development Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu and South African Police Cassel Mathale  formed part of the roadshow.

About four schools from primary and high school level were selected to participate in the initiative.

Police spokesperson Thivhulawi Tshilate says, “Bullying is against the Constitution of the Republic Of South Africa. The program is earmarked to also discourage involvement of youth in substance abuse, to motivate and encourage learners to respect educators and non-teaching staff.”

Tshilate said the focus was also on teaching, learning, moral regeneration and Gender-based Violence (GBV).

“There were stalls containing various information and pamphlets. These were issued to learners for future referral and reminder.”

Sedibeng District Deputy Commissioner, Brigadier Pule Phillip Mokoena appreciated the efforts of the various Deputy Ministers and their political intervention in creating a safe and secure environment at schools and in  society.

The Sedibeng District Junior Commissioner, General Tshepiso Thipe encouraged learners to consider their studies very seriously, portray good morals and remain respectful.
