Soul Food feeding communities

In a plight to alleviate hunger and poverty Soul Food has committed itself to feeding people in disadvantaged communities.

SEDIBENG. – Soul Food is a division of The Soul Provider Trust and aims to hand out 1 million meals a month to children and persons in centres and schools, thus reducing the number of people who go to bed hungry on a daily basis.

Sedibeng regional manager for Soul Food Kenny Mabunda recently visited the Vukuzenzele old age home in Sebokeng where he donated groceries. On the day, he also visited Bophelong Children’s Home in Vanderbilpark, Tlhonolofatso Old Age Home in Polokong, Doulos Ministries in Three Rivers and Siyabonga in Orange Farm.

Mabunda says, “I drive around the area a lot and identify organisations that assist the community. I went past a soup kitchen today and I want to go back and see how they work and if they really help the community, We can lend a hand.” Mabunda said what Soul Food bring does makes  a huge difference to the community.

Vukezenzele manager Vuyelwa Selebalo says, “The donations we receive from Soul Food have made a huge difference. Soul Food started helping us from 2019 and they make a huge difference to the staff and have improved the quality of food we give to our elderly.”

Selebalo said the home takes care of elderly people brought by their families and sometimes the police. “My wish is for Soul Food to continue changing lives and making a positive impact in our communities..”

Impact manager Simone Newman says, “In 2020, Soul Food distributed 7,5 million meals to community centres, soup kitchens and to families around South Africa. It was especially important to target communities and children as they were not able to access their daily school meals.

“In addition to handing out food items, we have also started Soul Seed, which encourages communities to grow their own vegetables either for their family or to sell for income. This Soul Food initiative has really taken off well and is growing from strength to strength.”
