Fake goods seized during operation in Midvaal

In a continued effort to maintain law and order in the Meyerton policing precinct, Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) MMC for Corporate Services Mokete Motsamai undertook a joint operation with the SAPS recently.

MIDVAAL. – The joint operation was led by the Sedibeng Cluster Commander General Zodwa Molefe.

During the operation, inspections were conducted at various shops in the CBD. During inspection, police found some shop owners to be trading with illegal goods including illicit cigarettes.

Motsamai emphasised the importance of working together with the police. “This is one of many operations to come in the coming months in different areas to deal with other law enforcement issues the community of Midvaal have been complaining about.”

Motsamai thanked General Molefe, the members of SAPS special task team and commercial crime for their hard work and the Municipal law enforcement team for their cooperation and the impact made on this operation.

“The team confiscated illegal cigarettes and other illegal goods. Trading in illegal goods is a crime that could lead to up to 5 years imprisonment or a fine depending on the goods confiscated.

“Illegal goods have a dire impact on the economy of the country as these goods cross the border illegally without paying necessary taxes and possibly coming from countries where they might be supporting illegal operations or organizations that are working against governments.”
