Community clashes with police over electricity

SHARPEVILLE. – All hell broke loose when the Sharpeville, Tshepiso Phase 5 community clashed with the police over the electricity recently.

This was after the community took their frustrations to the street to close the main route in protest of electricity cut-offs in Tshepiso North Phase 5.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Thabo Raleetoane who is one of the community leaders said that police shot at them when they were protesting for electricity. He said it has been more than two weeks that they have been without electricity.

Raleetoane said several attempts to engage the ward Councillor were unsuccessful until they went to Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) to engage the mayor about the situation remained.

He said Mayor promised to come and addressed the community about the situation but cancelled the appointment on the same day.

Among other things that the community complained to Sedibeng Ster about are the state of the roads and rubbish in the area.

Sedibeng Ster will monitor the situation for the latest developments in the area.

The ELM has promised that the electricity situation will soon been resolved in Sedibeng as a whole.
