“I wouldn’t say which coach SAFA must appoint but I’m saying they must appoint someone who will be brave enough rebuild Bafana Bafana."

SEDIBENG. – Former Bafana Bafana defender and Captain, Aaron “Mbazo” Mokoena has said that SAFA’s Technical Committee needs to appoint a coach who will be brave enough to rebuild the team and take the country to 2022 World Cup.

This was after Sedibeng Ster Sport asked him who should replace Molefi Ntseki as Bafana Bafana Head Coach, seeing that Benni McCarthy is a red hot favourite to do so. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mokoena said SAFA must allow the committee to do its work to appoint a coach that will be brave enough to mix young blood with experience.

Mokoena, who is Assistant Coach at Cape Town City was one of the youngsters who was introduced in the Bafana Bafana team at a very young age. He was the youngest player for Bafana in 1998’s AFCON in Bakino Faso.

“I wouldn’t say which coach SAFA must appoint but I’m saying they must appoint someone who will be brave enough rebuild the Bafana Bafana team to qualify for 2022 World Cup. Look, it is not about who will be coaching Bafana Bafana but someone who will have a five-year plan to take our country forward. There must be continuity and identity if we are serious to take this country forward as far as football is concerned.”

When asked if he will be agree to be part of Bafana Bafana if SAFA approaches him to be part of the technical team, Mokoena said,  “I played at the highest level of football for more than ten years and grew up in the best development structures in Ajax.”

Mokoena told Sedibeng Ster Sport that Nigeria, at one stage found themselves in the same situation that Bafana Bafana is in now, but they made whole changes to conquer African football.
