African culture camp a great feat

The camp was held to promote African culture.

SEDIBENG.- As part of promoting African culture, Khaylisha M Agency embarked on a camp at Venterskoop in Parys recently.

The camp was held to promote African culture with their models experiencing some of the African traditions and culture, such as cooking with African pots on an open fire.
Some of the tasks they performed was collecting firewood in the veld like in the past when African girls would be sent to nearby rivers to fetch water or firewood in the veld.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Karabo Ramathe hailed the camp as a success with the girls enjoying each and every moment at the camp. Ramathe said that apart from promoting African culture amongst the girls, the camp was part of teamwork as they shared their individual stories and challenges as young people.

She believes that not enough attempts have been made to promote African culture amongst young people. She further said that this was their first experience as young women to make a fire for themselves without any help from men or their parents.

Girls from Khaylisha M Modeling Agency had the best experience at the camp to promote African culture.

“The first day we didn’t do much, we just got here, set up camp and we sat around the fire until almost midnight. We shared our experiences and how we felt about being at the place. We slept outside and many of us were not prepared but we were soon comfortable. This was the best experience of our lives because for the first time we slept outside in a strange place, far away from home. We sat around the fire until we fell asleep listening to each other’s stories, our personal challenges as young women,” said Ramathe.
Ramathe said they that they are planning the next camp for the models and girls who didn’t go to the camp this time around
