Eligwa Aquatic Club to host lifesaving skills

"With the change of weather patterns, high rains mean that the community is going to experience more floods in the near future."

SHARPEVILLE.- The Eligwa Aquatics Club will soon conduct lifesaving skills training for young boys and girls following the high number of drowning incidents in South Africa.
This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the Eligwa Aquatics Club Director, Tsiliso Koatla who said that they are looking for young people and the public in general who are in need of swimming lessons, seeing that most black community members cannot swim.

Koatla told Sedibeng Ster Sport that with the change of weather patterns, high rains mean that the community is going to experience more floods in the near future.
He said that the country is going to need more volunteers equipped in lifesaving skills to help prevent drowning incidents.

“During winter, the club focuses on the lifesaving theory including emergency care, and in summer we do swimming and rescue skills. The programme caters for the children between the age of 7 to 14 years, juniors and all age groups.
“We also award certificates to our volunteers who complete the course to enable them other opportunities like competitions and job opportunities,” he said.
Koatla said apart from lifesaving, swimming is part of sports which young people can make a career out of and represent the county at the Olympics Games.
