‘War’ imminent over RDP houses

“They do not even have ID documents with which to identify themselves, the majority of them are from Lesotho with no proper documents."

SEBOKENG. – The excitement of people in Boiketlong Squatter Camp near Sebokeng who have been waiting for RDP houses for twenty years may be premature.
The squatters have claimed that they will the first to be allocated house or else they will forcefully move into the new 150 RDP houses nearby as soon as they are up. Dan Mofokeng, one of the Boiketlong resident said they have been waiting for decades for houses.

He said more than 500 residents with approval letters and on the waiting lists, have cross their fingers that they will not allow squatting or new comers to move into the houses without them owning houses first.
The climate for war is rife as residents prepared to fight with anything in their power.

On the other hand, Sipho Dhlamini (45), and Thapelo Radebe in Waterdale, argue that most of the so-called Boiketlong resident who claim to have a right to occupy the house are Lesotho foreigners. “They do not even have ID documents with which to identify themselves, the majority of them are from Lesotho with no proper documents, said Radebe.
However, Mofokeng said many self-proclaimed settlers are South Africans from other parts of the country and local townships.
The probability is that the RDP’s will be formally allocated from next month to July.
