Sasol acknowledges excellence in Fezile Dabi Education District

Fezile Dabi, the district around Sasolburg, was the top performing district in the Free State, obtaining an 86,5% pass rate.

SASOLBURG – On Saturday, 27 March 2021, Sasol joined the Free State Department of Education in celebrating the successes achieved by schools in the Fezile Dabi Education District during the 2020 matric examination.

The Free State again achieved the highest matric pass rate in South Africa in 2020, leading the results with 85,1%, compared to the national pass rate of 76,2%.

Fezile Dabi, the district around Sasolburg, was the top performing district in the Free State, obtaining an 86,5% pass rate.

“As 2020 was one of the most difficult years in history due to the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on teaching and learning, the excellent results achieved by the Fezile Dabi Education District, deserve to be applauded,” said Thuli Mbuli, Head Community Affairs at Sasol’s Sasolburg and Ekandustria Operations.

Of note is the exceptional mathematics results achieved in Fezile Dabi (74,4%), leading the second performing district in the province by a 6,5% margin.

This represents an achievement more than 20% above the national average of 53,8%. Schools in Metsimaholo (being the larger Sasolburg area) topped the Fezile Dabi district, obtaining a 74,8% mathematics pass rate, which is also the sixth best performing district in the country.

Kgabareng Secondary School in Viljoenskroon was the best performing school in the District: Quintile 1-3. It received a platinum award for obtaining a pass rate of 100%, with a 59,18% bachelors pass rate during the 2020 Matric examination.

At the function, the MEC for Education in the Free State, Dr Tate Makgoe and the District Director of Education, Dr Vusi Chuta thanked Sasol for its vast contributions to education in the Fezile Dabi District, specifically the programmes run by the Boitjhorisong Resource Centre.
