Operation ‘Okae Molao’ a success

In Phase 4 a shack owner was arrested on the charge of operating an illegal shebeen and all alcohol was confiscated.

VEREENIGING.- Operation ‘Okae Molao’ was a great success last Wednesday which saw criminals meet the hand of the law. During the operation, two men driving a white NP200 Nissan bakkie belonging to a construction company were arrested on the charge of suspected stolen vehicles.

The incident happened during a Vereeniging operational roadblock. Provincial Police Spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said the original driver of the vehicle apparently saw a roadblock ahead and requested his assistant to drive.

The vehicle was found to have been tampered with. The driver told the police that he was not aware that they have been driving a stolen bakkie. Later, as the operation proceeded another bakkie, from the same company, was stopped.

Masondo said police searched the vehicle and its identification number was also apparently tempered with. The roadblock was conducted on the Steelpark road between Potchefstroom and Vereeniging.

The operation that started around 07:00 until 12:00 was conducted by Sedibeng District Commissioner, Major General Zoda Molefe and Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Tommy Mthombeni.

The operation commenced further into Phase 3, Sharpeville, where dagga and alcohol were confiscated. A bottle store was also shut down after it was found to be operating without compliance. In Phase 4 a shack owner was arrested on the charge of operating an illegal shebeen and all alcohol was confiscated.

Captain Masondo said all suspects will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court soon.
