Two NWU student leaders expelled

The Sedibeng Ster heard from a reliable source that the duo brought private homeowners under the misconception that they, as SCC members, can ensure that the homeowners’ property be registered as accredited private accommodation for students.

VANDERBIJLPARK. –  Two of the Vanderbijlpark Student Campus Council’s members have been expelled following a disciplinary hearing.

A spokesperson from the North West University (NWU) said the hearing followed after the students behaved in such a way that put the NWU’s name in a bad light.

The two were expelled with immediate effect, but they have the right to appeal the decision.

The Sedibeng Ster heard from a reliable source that the duo brought private homeowners under the misconception that they, as SCC members, can ensure that the homeowners’ property be registered as accredited private accommodation for students.

The homeowners had to pay the SCC members to be accredited. There are allegedly proof of where the money has been paid into and when it has been withdrawn. The homeowners realised the scam and contacted the university. It’s still unclear if the two will be criminally prosecuted.

Their names are known to the Sedibeng Ster but cannot be published until the process have been finalized. Since the registration of students are still ongoing at the university, a by-election to fill the vacancies on the SCC and the Student Representative Council (SRC) will only be held at a later stage.

Other SRC members will step in temporarily to fulfil the duties of the vacant seats.
