Head of ArcelorMittal’s coke plant murdered

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Police have launched a manhunt for suspects who pulled the trigger and killed a 47-year-old ArcelorMittal’s Peet Snyders on Wednesday evening.

In a statement Kobus Verster, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal, said: “It is with the deepest regret and great sadness that I confirm the untimely and tragic death of our colleague, Peet Snyders, head of ArcelorMittal South Africa coke making operations.” According to Verster, Snyders died of injuries sustained in a shooting incident in Vanderbijlpark on his way home from work. Snyders is survived by his wife and two children.

According to Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters, it has so far been established that four men with white balaclavas over their faces, from a green car (registration number unknown), opened fire on Snyders and fatally wounded him. He died at the scene.
