Daring Sharpeville Post Office robbery

“She then opened a safe and gave them an undisclosed amount of money."

SHARPEVILLE.- Four robbers recently pulled a surprising stunt when they collected a Sharpeville Post Office employee from her home in Lakeside, Evaton only to rob her at her place of work on Sunday afternoon.

It is said that the employee, a cashier at the Post Office, was at her home at around 13:00 when three unknown men and one female arrived at her place and demanded to go with her to the Vereeniging police station for questioning about an investigation taking place about the Sharpeville Post office currently underway.
Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Nombulelo Mohlakoana said:
“They told her that her area manager and her supervisor are waiting for her in Vereeniging. She then left with them as they mentioned the names of people that she knows and they spoke about an investigation that she knew about.

As they were on their way to Vereeniging police station they then said they must go via Sharpeville Post office to make a printout of the payouts that occurred on Friday the 5th of March and Saturday the 6th March.”
Mohlakoana adds that upon their arrival at the Sharpeville Post Office the employee opened the doors of her employment and went inside. “When she was about to go to the computers the culprits pointed her with guns and demanded money.

“She then opened a safe and gave them an undisclosed amount of money.
“They further asked for more and she told them that it was the only money left for grant payouts.”
The suspects apparently further demanded that the victim give them MVL licences disks money and she told them there was nothing.
“They then took the MVL license disk machine and demanded the post office keys and her handbag with her cellphone inside before they locked her inside the post office and left.”
Mohlakoana said that after that, the suspects called one of the victim’s colleagues and told her that they had locked her inside the post office because she was refusing to give them money.
“The colleague called the Sharpeville SAPS and all role players were contacted. The police are investigating a case of robbery with a weapon.”
