Cash-in transit heist in Zone 7

"The criminals then bombed the Fidelity Guard vehicle and their Mercedes caught fire."

SEBOKENG.- Robbers made way with an undisclosed amount of money following a cash-in transit heist that took place between Zones 7 and 10 Extension 3 in Sebokeng last Wednesday.


It is said that at about 14:50 just past Kwagga-Stroom train station, a Fidelity Guard vehicle, carrying cash, was attacked together with its escort vehicle, a Datsun Go.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Police Spokesperson Sergeant Nombulelo Mohlakoana said that the Fidelity Guard vehicle together with the Datsun Go were travelling from Evaton to Sebokeng when a white Mercedes Benz, came and bumped the Fidelity Guard vehicle from the driver’s side pushing it off the road.


“The Datsun driver saw this and tried to back-up his colleagues when a white Porsche Cayenne, a blue BMW and a white Mercedes started to shoot at them and the security inside the Datsun Go tried to run but it was too late as he was shot at and sustained serious injuries.”
Mohlakoana said that the injured driver was air lifted to a hospital and his partner who was also shot at died on the scene.
“Whilst the crew of the Fidelity Guard vehicle managed to escape, the driver was held at a gun point. The criminals then bombed the Fidelity Guard vehicle and their Mercedes caught fire. They managed to take an undisclosed amount of money and escaped using the other vehicles mentioned.”

No suspects were arrested or shot, investigations are ongoing.
