When pressed for comment Bones Modise, a spokesperson for the party, said that the ANC’s Gauteng PEC is yet to issue a statement and would do so soon.
He did not verify the information, neither did he want to confirm or deny anything yet.
Saviour Kgaswane, a spokesperson for the Sedibeng District Municipality says the municipality currently does not have a mayor and that only council can make the determination of who is the new executive mayor.
The municipality is said to have been “flailing aimlessly” without a mayor since the passing of the former mayor, Busisiwe Modisakeng, who died of Covid-19 related complications in January.
Dennis Ryder, DA chairperson in the Vaal Region said that “internal contestation” was most likely the reason for the delay in instating a new mayor.
*This is a developing story. Vaalweekblad will publish a statement from the ANC’s Gauteng PEC as soon as it becomes available.
